Planted lettuce on St. Patrick's Day

A spot in the garden was dry enough to work up a little so I planted some leaf lettuce. I never have done any gardening this early.

That's super! Wish I had remembered to buy lettuce. Put in 3 rows of radishes and a row of snow peas, all ~ 15' long here today. Ditto on the earliness. Soil very mellow, worked up like a dream. Till once and plant. It's on a south facing slope and was surprisingly good moisture. Rain forecast overnite and good chances thru Tuesday!

Back in 94 or 95ish the growing season started off a lot like this. For some reason i remember planting salad stuff on march 20 th under wire/plastic tunnel cold frames. There was only one harder frost after, which knocked them back, but did not kill and by mid May was already harvesting. Still, a lot can happen in the next month........

Dotch, you inspired me to plant some more today. Snow Peas, Spinach, Set Onions, Radishes, and Beets. We'll see what happens.

Cool beans, er, lettuce! Radishes were all up today now.

I tilled my garden today and tilled in some sand and compost also. I am thinking of planting some lettuce, onions and potatoes this week. Is it too early for the potatoes?

You can plant any under ground crop now carrots, beets, onions, potatoes. Peas can also be planted. Heck I planted some radishes on Feb. 2 and they are doing well.
