FL-22 Owners... HELP?!

Recommended Posts

Went out this past weekend, with my new FL-22. A sweet unit indeed. Though I've run into some stuff that bugged me!

I had the settings at x3.. 12 degree settings.

I would drop the lure down to about 15 feet, and it would cover the whole 0ft-15ft graph with green/red/orange marks for about 30seconds.. as soon as I would jig it would show more marks there, but they would disappear, as if my jig was giving off some kind of bubbles or something (no they're not fish!).

Also It would read my lure, so let's say if I had my lure at 15ft it would show another mark at 20ft as if a double. So if i raised it up to 10ft, that mark would show at 15 ft (green mark)

And then if I dropped it down to 25ft it would show another mark at 5ft on the graph.. Drop down another 5 and that mark goes down 10ft.. raise it up another 5ft.. you get the drift. There's nothing on my line besides the jig.

It's a sweet unit, but these little things bug me!

Is this a ducer issue?? Any help or input is greatly appreciated.

Couple questions -

How high did you have your gain set?

I have never seen a double echo from a jig, but if you set the gain high enough and double the depth you can get a double echo off the bottom, useful for determining bottom content. Not sure if it could happen from the jig or not, but I suppose anything is possible. I run my gain so my jig reads green. If you have it set so your jig is red, you have it way too high.

Are you using braided line?

Braided line often traps tiny air bubbles on the line and will really wreak havoc on your flasher. Any air bubble will show up as a return. It could have been that you had an abnormal ammount of air bubbles on the line.

It could be a ducer, but I would try to eliminate some common stuff first.

I can get single green marks from air bubbles if I rip it up hard with a macho minnow or spoon, but never orange/red. I've never had the gain over 1-2 in under 30 ft of water though.

Not that it helps you, but I've not seen the double echo that you are experiencing.

Sounds to me like your gain is to high, it should only be turned up enough to read your jig at a green color. I usually don't have to turn up my gain at all, but when I do I just turn it up so I can barely see my jig.

Or also, try wiping the 'ducer off when you first put it in the water. This will clear off any dust or air bubbles from the bottom.

I have a FL-22 as well. For me, if the water is at a depth of 28 or more feet, it makes it difficult for me to use the 12 degrees. I have played with the gain for 12 degrees in that water depth or more. It just doesn't seem to work good. I usually use 8 degrees for anything at 28 or more feet or lets say, at the setting X3, I use the 8 degree and it then works fine.
