Dead bait fishing for pike

Im wanting to try fishing for pike this spring with dead bait. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions that they would like to share? pound test line, hook size, bait, ect... Thanks all.

Try using dead smelt. Northers just seem to love the smell of smelt. The could be rigged on a quick strike rig. Just float under a bobber in a good piky spot and it won't take too long for the snack to get eaten! don't forget to use a wire leader.

I agree with musky hunter, you can also fish off the bottom, just put a small piece of foam or cork in the mouth of the smelt, it helps prop the bait up on the bottom. I've had success out on the missouri river in the bays after iceout, and off shore in waubay.

if your going after pike
i was told this get some dead sucker minnows
a big round bobber head to the mississippi
river cast when the current is moving
but not to fast what that does
the movement of the water moves the bobber
the pike thinks the bait is alive
and that's when you'll get big pikes
