TERRY, WHILE IT IS TRUE SOME FISH WERE KEPT BY THE ANGLERS TO MOUNT (THAT IS THIER PERSONAL CHOICE) IT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE AT THIS TOURNAMENT. FRANK

TERRY I RESPECT YOUR PASSION FOR CATCH AND RELEASE AND I PERSONALLY PRACTICE IT, IN 15 YEARS I HAVE ONLY KEPT ONE 35lb FISH WHICH WAS BEFORE I KNEW ABOUT REPRODUCTION MOUNTS. I ENCOURAGE ALL MY CUSTOMERS TO RELEASE THIER FISH AND GET REPRODUCTION MOUNTS. LAST YEAR I HAD A 100% RELEASE RATE. AND AS FAR AS SPORT THAT IS ANOTHER PERSONAL CHOICE HOW PEOPLE CHOOSE TO PURSUE THIER FISH. I ENJOY CASTING IN THE RIVERS AND WHEN TROLLING MY HEAVIEST ROD HAS 20lb MONO WITH 40lb MONO LEADS AND THEY GET LIGHTER FROM THERE. I RESPECT YOUR OPINIONS BUT I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

Frank,
How can you as a C&R angler support a tournament like this? All the muskie boards bashed this tournament last year
and I would think you wouldn't want any part of this slaughter this year.

Boatloads of drunks draging all the of lines they can, most of them not having a clue about what they are doing to the resource. You say you have only killed one muskie but by promoting and taking part in this, you are just as guilty.

Why not post this on all the Muskie boards and see what kind of reception you get there. I doubt you will find them any less disgusted by this event.

As a professonal guide, you above all should have more respect for the fish that help you make a living. I'm sorry if I have been harsh but this event is a travesty and it should be canceled,
FOREVER!!!!

TERRY, CONSIDER IT GONE. DIDN'T KNOW THE COMMUNITY SAW IT THAT WAY. ALL THE GUYS I KNOW ARE CAPTAINS AND WE SURE DON'T DRINK WHILE WE ARE WORKING(USCG REGULATION) AND WE ALL HAVE VERY LARGE LIVEWELLS TO REST THE FISH (MINE IS 10' LONG BY 18" WIDE BY 20" DEEP) BEFORE RELEASING. FRANK

Terry,

I couldn't agree with you more on all of your comments here. Thanks for voicing the opinions of nearly all musky fishermen out there!

Frank,
I was not inferring, that you and your fellow captains were drunks, just many of the anglers. My anger is, and was directed at the tournament and all the people that sponsor this event. frown.gif

A livewell is a coffin for a muskie, it
should be called a deadwell. They get slamed against the bulkhead, especially
in the high seas that can occur on the great lakes.

I thank you for removing your post. smile.gif

I saw many photos of that tourney myself.
More than a few fish dead and who knows how many croked after release.
Live wells do NO good in hot weather for Musky, even thow the ones you mentioned are very nice.
Coffin is a fine word to use in the case of holding Musky.
Water is HOT on the surface and then is is pumped into LIVE well.
Even if it is bubbling with air it is still HOT surface water.
NO good.
This tourney got really tore up on other boards.
Letters were writen and phone calls made.
Those pictures were sad to see.
Sad indeed.

It is the right to keep and kill.
frown.gif
But just NOT needed these days in the case of Musky.
Ever.
Many better ways to handle this whole deal with a little thought and effort.
I know of NO one that would enter if fish were NOT released after measurement.
Many ways to get judge boat to the fish FAST.
CB, Marine radio, Cell phone...
Come on!
Trick is to have lots of judge boats and in the know anglers before you start.

I have never even had a client ask to keep a fish!
Sad days when we are out having a tourney and fish are dying.
Nothing personal, but this tourney blows!

Glad it's gone.

T.

Frank,
It was way more than just some fish! frown.gif
Trolling with 6 or 8 lines behind the boat, just isn't my idea of a sporting tournament.

The delayed mortalitiy of the fish that were transported, and then handled for the weigh in, will never be known. I'm sure you can ad another 10% of the total catch to your FEW fish!

This tournament couldn't even get a DNR permit in Minnesota or Wisconsin. smile.gif Fortunately MN & Wis, don't allow keep and kill tournaments!

I urge all members of FM.com to write a letter, send an e-mail or call Chapter
#47 of MI, The Michigan Muskie Alliance to voice your disaproval of this muskie
slaughter tournament.

I think your all done here Frank!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
