Strikemaster 8" gas auger question

Waterwolf22

Question

I was drilling some holes last weekend in shallow water and hit some tree stumps and the bottom. Now when I go to drill, the shaft shakes (near the blades when trying to start a new hole) and the blades do not bite. There is a little play (side play) near where the auger shaft connects to the motor shaft so I replaced the collar bolt with a new 8 mm bolt and it took out some of the play. With a new set of blades will I be back in business?

I am guessing you are running a Strikemaster Lazer drill unit on your auger. if so you knocked your drill unit out of pitch. even with new blades if this is the case they won't help. the best thing you could do is to take the auger and drill unit to strikemaster in big lake and have them check the pitch on the drill unit and they could also check the amount of play(some movement is normal)to see if it is excessive.

Good News! I got a new set of blades and it did the trick..... The new 8 mm collar bolt may have been a big help as well. The old bolt showed some wear and a few chewed up threads.

The auger did a great job drilling - now I would like some colder weather because the ice is softening up again!
