Hi,

I'm new to this HSOforum, but I've read some posts and I should have been doing this a long time ago. I'm going to Crane Lake, Sand Point lake, Namakan in early June. I go with my my dad, brothers, and father in law with me. Haven't fished here before, and I'm not asking anybody to give up their honey hole (I know I wouldn't), but any general idea of where to start would be great. We're fishing for walleyes of course... and we'll take Northerns too, haha. We're camping on Sand Point. Thanks in advance for any help.

Early June you'll want to start in the shallow bays, then move deeper until you contact fish. Windblown points also should be good. They can be anywhere from 5 feet to 30. I mostly fish western Namakan, so I can't speak for the Sand Point area.

Campsites in the park are pretty busy, so plan to arrive early in the week, Sunday thru Wednesday. I'm retired so I usually go up Monday and leave Friday.

You should scroll down to the Crane Lake-Kabetogama-Namakan forum and ask there. You'll probably get more response, although much of the traffic this time of year is ice fishing stuff.

We do well early june with a jig and a minnow, might want to start out trolling a lindy rig to cover more ground at first till you find them. We usually stick to 13-22 feet of water, sometimes you'll have to go deeper (up to 45-50) to find the smaller slot fish, it all depends on the timing of the spawn. Be prepared to use a drift sock if needed to slow you down to around .5 mph if trolling\drifting. All in all, it's pretty easy finding and catching fish there that time of year.
