jigging or tip-ups?

which do you guys think you catch more fish on?and which do you like better?

Jigging. I've caught more pike jigging then on tip-ups. I was out yesterday and caught numerous pike all off of jiggin a spoon and minnow. Tip-ups can be good too if you're deadbaiting over a underwater point or hump.

For big pike tip ups are best with quick strike rigs and dead bait on the bottom. Jigs or spoons tipped with a sucker or shiner work well for action. The great thing about ice fishing is you can do both at the same time.

were you jigging for the northerns that you were catching at coon? if so what kind?and how deep?ive only fished coon once before and it wasnt in the channel so i just want to know whats working.

Yes, I was jigging when I caught the pike on Coon. I wasn't in the channel. I was fishing the weed edges opposite side of the access in about 9 feet of water. Walk down the shore about 40 yards towards the channel before crossing. There was open water on Sunday straight out from the access. I used jigging spoons tipped with a medium size crappie minnow. The weeds will come up about 2 feet off the bottom and I was jigging about a foot above the weeds. You could also set up tip-ups out towards deeper water, 12-15 feet. I'll be out there early saturday. If your up early let me know, I'm heading out there with Chiro.

im going to talk to my cousin tonight about where we are going to go this weekend.he likes to ish ham so i might be able to try coon. cuz i go were he goes hes my ride.do you guys fish in an ice house or out in the open?

Danny, I'll be in a black flip over. You shouldn't have a hard time spotting us. Look straight out from the access and we should be on the opposite side of the lake. I'll have a red vest on if I'm not in the portable.

depending on how cold it is you will probably spot us before we spot you because i will probably be wearing some blaze orange. how deep do you usually fish? and when you jig do you us regular jigs or like jigging spoons?

Danny, I'll be fishing in about 8-12 feet of water. Most likely I'll be sitting over about 9 feet. I using Buckshot jiggin spoons tipped with a minnow. Rainbow color seems to work the best but I'm sure that the other colors will work the same. I used medium size crappie minnows hooked through the head. Bring maggots and panfish gear as well. The gills or crappies might be bitting. I'm thinking about heading to some of the holes to give it a try. Temps should be in the 20's for saturday. I'll be bringing the Mr. Heater for this outting. Ice was about 5 inches thick last weekend so I'm expecting more this week with all the colds temps we've been getting. I'm meeting Chiro out there at 8am. I'm heading out at noon for the ice show so I only have 4 hours to ice some fish. Maybe I'll see you saturday then.

we will probably be out there by at least 6 am.thats if we dont get bored in the middle of the night and go out even earlier.last year we had some of our best northern fishing during the middle of the night.we will probably be in a 4x6 blue ice house.hope to see you out there.

im only going to be able to make it out after about 2 out onto coon on saturday because of a school project. are you going to be out there on sunday?

Danny, I won't be out on sunday but I have 35 days off starting December 16th. Let me know when you wanna get out and go after some fish. I know that Exudedude, Hawgtime, Eyeballs, Chiro, and more wanna tag some crappies so let me know if you're interested.

has anybody got many jigging this year? i havent. i havent caught 1 pike this year jigging. i have gotten many fish this year on tip up.

have you got much of anything on coon this year? the biggest pike we got was 7 pounds. and they are starting to get bigger. when r u heading out to coon again? have you tried for cats yet?

Danny, haven't reallt fished Coon in a while. Haven't done a lot of pike fishing either. I would try Green Lake in Chisago County if you're looking for pike. A lot of nice ones in there. Jig for panfish and set up a tip up, worked for me in the past.

Up to a couple weekends ago I would say jigging. But two weekends ago I was on a lake up north that I usually jig. This time thought we had more than just me and my buddy (wife & girlfriend) so we had 6 tip ups. We caught about a dozen or so pike and all but 2 fish where on tipups. I would even say my wife's fish was more of a tipup catch (she fell asleep in the house and when she woke up there was a fish in the other end of her line).
