First Build

Recommended Posts

Hey guys -

Just finished up my first rod today. For some reason I had some problems keeping the epoxy from sliding down the threads to the guide when it was drying. Thinking maybe it was a little uneven when i set it on the dryer but it turned out alright I thought.

Let me know what ya think...

The handle is Cedar, It's a little heavier but fine for and ice rod. The blank is a 36" I bought from a local dealer that get's his supply from Batson. Not sure what my next build will be but I have another ice rod in the works.

it will be good for outside on the ice but in a shack it will be too long. I personally like to stay at 28 inches or under for a inside the shack rod. my favorite length is 26 inches. I built my first ice rod at 26 and then the second one I did at 28. the wood handle was 25 3/4". I am going to pair the 28 inch with a HT ice rigger in place of a traditional tip up(only will do this on warmer days) for pike and catfish.
