[UNIT]

I am looking to wire in some lights to my Clam X4 and want to dedicate a power supply with switches to power some or all of the lights I am installing. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for switches and storage of the power supply. I am looking for pics if possible, ideas for styles of switches, creative battery holders, and anything else anyone has come up with. There are some previous posts that I have looked at and have found some of the information very helpful but would like to gather as much info as possible before I start work on my project.

Well, I cant say I've ever attempted such a task, but this is what popped into my head as reading your post.

Supplies:

Plastic tool box with extra storage compartment on top (est $10)

Rocker switches (couple bucks at FF, Radio shack, auto parts store)

12V cigarette lighter type socket

12v plug

some stranded wire (14ga should be plenty, maybe even thinner)

Vexilar type battery

inline fuse wouldn't be a bad idea.

Assembly:

1. Under top cover, drill holes of appropriate size for the rocker switches to fit through. Push through hole and secure with supplied plastic nut on the inside.

2. If top has 2 separate sides, drill hole in other side for the 12v socket to fit in, otherwise can be done in side/front of box.

3. place battery inside, possibly secure with velcro or something

4. wire battery to switch, to socket(s).

Kinda like this. Switches on one side, sockets on the other, batteries inside.

Thanks for the ideas. Any more would be greatly appreciated. Would you include the plug in for other electronics, use it as a plug in for the lights, or plug the switches into the battery? I think any of the above situations would work well. I am going to continue to brainstorm and look for more ideas as it never hurts to do to much research before starting.

Here is how I would wire it (this wiring is set up for switches with indicator lights in them). Use the other sockets for lights, phone chargers, sonar, whatever.

Then I would connect it to the battery with some clips like this.
