clean or dirty water pike?

I fish this lake that has a small river run through it, and were the inlet is the water is really clear and as you get farther away it slowly gets dirtier. Would it be better to fish in the clear water were the inlet is or in the dirty water were the outlet is and what bait would be the best to use? Also the lake is shallow only 10ft and has lots of cattails, liliy pads, and weeds. Any replies would be nice.

I dont know if it would make too much of a difference where you fished. I would say the best thing for you to do is experiment. Maybe on a sunny day the fish would retreat to the darker water and darker days they would move to the clear water. But like the saying goes, "Its all just theory until you hit the water." Several things come to my mind. Understanding why a lake gets dirtyier away from the clear inlet is a puzzle to be solved. Are there underwater springs that are bringing up silt, etc. causing the turbidity? The lake is shallow,and the cloudier water will absorb more sunlight and become warmer than the clear areas. Warmer water may mean more algae and less oxygen in later summer in those areas. Since it's small I would fish likely areas in all of it, but where I got a fish I would start asking questions about water temp and oxygen content and try to understand some of the mechanics of this lake. You will eventually uncover a pattern.

Thanks for the replies, I might be heading over there again this weekend and will have to experiment w/different colored lures in different colored water.
Also what is the best lure you have had luck with in warm water? Mine is a firetiger/green w/ gold spots spinnerbait.
