questions on making your own friction calls

I'm taking on an offseason project in the form of making my own glass surface pot calls and I am wondering if there is a particular type of glass used when making these calls...I have searched the web and youtube for plans and how to videos hoping that they would give me some insight, and while they were helpfull the only info provided is that they special orderd their glass or slate from an outside source. I would like to make all parts myself without going to an outside vendor or purchasing a kit...any advice would be appreciated.

I've made my friction calls with glass and slate that I've ordered. It's hard to find slate with the correct hardness and thickness. The softer slate give some sweet tones. As far as glass goes I've used bead blasted as well as clear glass. It's nothing special and if you have access to 1/8 - 3/16" thick glass that you can cut for surface or sounding board material I'm sure it would work. Do you have a lathe that you'll be turning your bowls on?
