Night light for an 870

Recommended Posts

chuck,

There's a lot of good lights out there that would work for you. I use Fenix and my son uses an XLR 250. Do a search on hog hunting lights and you'll find quite a few out there with a wide range of prices. Red seems to be the ticket followed by green. We use the red.

As for chokes. I use a extra full choke while my son has been useing a modified in his. You really need to buy some shells and paper test them through your gun at different yardages to find out which choke will shoot the best from your gun. Make a 9" circle on some freezer paper and attach it to a box and shoot at it with the different chokes at say, 20,30 40 and 50 yards then count the pellets in the circle. See which choke puts the most in the circle. I believe there's 41 pellets in a #4 buckshot shell.

Chuck,

While hunting in Wisconsin, I'll turn the caller on and off while listening for the animal running in and then turn the light on to ID and shoot. In Minnesota, you can scan after Jan. 1st while useing a shotgun.(check regulations for other requirements)I use a red headlight while scanning over there and for obvious reasons you wouldn't want to be scanning with a gun mounted light. Just too dangerous.

The XLR lights will come with a mount but there are several other mounts out there. I can't remember where I got mine but it's real compact and pretty durable. There's so many tactical light mounts out there, agian, just do a search and you'll find many to choose from.

I just got off the bay site and found both of those flash lights and also found some clearance ones that were closer to my budget its a ultrafire C8 SSCPP It comes with the mount and remote switch.

I think it will be a great strter flash light for a shotgun
