Do I need a Shelter License????

The regulations seem a little unclear to me.

If the shelter is always occupied (even at night) a license is not needed? Am I correct?

Just need to have i.d. info and reflectors.........?

Here is where the contradiction is to me. The first quote is on one page, the second on another.

"A shelter may not be left unattended anytime between midnight and

one hour prior to sunrise unless the shelter is licensed."

"A tag, furnished

with a license, must be attached to the exterior in a

If portable and not left on the ice overnight unattended does not need to be licensed but still needs name and address in at least 2" size letters/numbers. If any house porty or perm is going to be left on the ice overnight unattended then it needs to be licensed as well as addressed; that is my take on the regs.

i believe that second quote goes along with the first one. if a shelter is left overnight a tag and licence is required. if you take your portable out for a day of fishing or at night and you occupy it, you dont need a licence for the shelter. just the identification outside as stated. good luck.

Arnt all ice houses portable? I have yet to see anyone pouring a foundation and framing an ice house on a lake.

You need one of 3 things on your house, NOTHING else is legal.

1. DNR #

2. Name and address

3. Drivers license #

Of the 3 i choose the DNR # as it wont lead someone to my front door.

DNR number is a good way to go because this number should not ever change.
