OPENING DAY

DUCKJ

Recommended Posts

52 days now!

So where will everyone be on opener and what presentation will you be using? I of course will be on Vermilion somewhere. I like small spinnerbaits for the most part early in the year. I look for warm bays with emerging weed growth. I also will hit a few rock piles at the mouth of these bays with Jakes.

Hi Dave

I like to hit what I call the first break.
The inside weed edge in the back bays or dips in the shorelines leading to deep water fast.
Then maybe the outside edge and the points, rocks, and sadles leading to the bays.
Don't forget to cast of into the deeper part off the first drop off to see if any fish are holding just off them waiting to come in and EAT!
LOL
You already know all that, but it is fun to talk about it.
I remember that HAWG you got last season right off.
BIG and beautiful!

Bet you go visit her home town this season too eh?

Best of luck to you all.

Howdy Boys and Girls,
I will also be on Vermilion, just can't
think of a reason to go anywhere else.
Small bucktails and spinnerbaits and my
favorite Jake's and Grandma's will be
flying on opener for me. smile.gif

I'll be seaching for any new weeds or
reed beds and the channels and points adjacent to shallow spawning bays. smile.gif

Is the ice gone yet?

Unfortunately, I will miss the opener this year. Going into Knife Lake in the BWCA. Hoping to make the following weekend on Vermilion to throw some top water baits.

Well I have to work on opening weekend too,
and I'm not sure what I will be working that week yet, so I wont be going anywhere, I'll just stick to the local lakes. most likely bald Eagle and white bear.

I can't wait to wet the baits. Just built myself a St. Croix 6'6'' Musky Rod and bought a 6501 C4 Abu that will be spooled with 80lb Tuf Line. I've arranged my baits many times in the tackle box. I have nothing more to do but feel the need to do something more. confused.gif Man I can't wait. grin.gif

I will be on the Big V tossing everything big and small -- I have had success in the past with both the "small" baits that everyone talks about in the spring, and some "large" baits (10" and larger Jerks & Cranks)seems like a slow big bait can get them "cold" fish to make their move. Maybe they don't want to waste their energy on a snack?

Can't wait - going crazy!
