Anyone on here fish the Metro Skie Lakes?

I have fished Minnetonka a few times. Have had some success in getting follows, but havn't landed one yet. I don't have a boat here in the metro so I can only get out with my friends and their boats.

I would like to try fishing Calhoun, I do have a canoe, but not too sure if I want to catch one out of a canoe.

Hi Steve,

I used to fish the Metro lakes a ton for 35 plus years.
Still live and work down here, FOR NOW!
LOL
Now only get on them in the early spring to Crappie fish.
Way late fall Musky bite and Ice fishing.
Have landed and released some very nice Lunge over the past 12 years in many of the lakes?
Have also had great luck with HUGE Pike on days just before Ice up.
Not so this season, as my boat crapped out Sept 1 and could not get parts unitl Dec 10th.

Save 98% of my open water time for the Big V.
We do get out Late Mid week nights some times and fish until after sun up.
Or on midweek early mornings.
I fish the Bear, Forest Lake or Owasso mostly, some Bald Eagle, Gervis, MacCarrons by my place.
Can be fun, but to many people on weekends.
One reason I have always went North to the Range and the beauty of the Big V.

When I got the Island six years ago I thought I was truly in heaven.

Do you fish the Metro much?

What lakes still produce for you due to the increase in Musky fishing pressure?

What lures do you find STILL produce?
(I use to kill with a Big old BLACK M&G Spinner bait with a Gold tinsel tail!)

What times do you favor, maybe we could hook up sometime?

I haven't since moving to Vermilion, I
lived in south MPLS, 2 blocks from lake
Nokomis.

At that time there were some good sized Tigers in Nokomis and I also
fished Calhoun & Harriet.

I never did make it out Minnetoka for muskie, to darn many people to contend
with.

Aside from that, it's good to have you visit our forum, I hope you can come by often.

Guideman, did you fish from shore, or out of a boat? Seems the city lakes have boat restrictions. Would love to hear your city muskie outings. Trying to convince my wife I need another boat, don't think a canoe will cut it. Some day I'll also be on Vermilion...25 years!??!

Yes, Minnetonka can be outright busy. But EARLY mornings were best. We quit by 10:30 AM. Lots of bass too! One trip we had to contend with a sailboat race and take a long way 'round to our next spot. Saw a lot of muskies in Robinson's Bay toward the point.

Eagle Lake in Maple Grove also has muskie, although I have never seen one.

I fish the metro for muskies. My main lakes are Forest,Waconia,Tonka, and I fish Orchard for some Tiger action. Once in a while I'll had south to fish french.

Hi Rob,
Back then it only required a permit on you boat and your trolling motor, both
were free. I use my 16ft sylvan but the
big motor had to be out of the water.

Now that so many people know about the
muskie's, I'm sure there are more boats
but when I was down there, you didn't see to many muskie anglers.

The fishing was pretty good for me, my
largest ever Tiger (42") game out of
Lake Nokomis. I caught it on a bucktail
just before sunset, it came from under
the lifeguard stand, right in front of the pavilion.
