High percentage spots, like the mouths to shallow bays, are top early season producers, and a great place to start your search. Shallow bays play the role of nursery to all kinds of minnows, and baitfish, that spend most of the summer and early fall, living and growing in the relative safety that shallow water and cover can provide.

fish with real minnows because when i fish with wax worms, the sunfish and the bluegills are the only thing i caught with them. but small crappie minnows work the best with small spoons with sharp treble hooks. (but i fish in a lake that has a low population of crappie, but the crappie are big in there. so if the lake has a big population of crappie, you could try wax worms or even plain earth worms)
