crappie at night

Depends on the lake. A lake near where I grew up we could catch them 6" under the ice in 28 FOW if we got aggressive with the jigging late at night. Other lakes I've caught plenty of crappie right on the bottom in the sand on the rattle reels between 9pm and 5 am. It just depends.

I fish Pike all day long, but usually start about 6:00am with a crappie minnow down and pick a few up prior to strong light. The, at the end of the day as the days gets darker fish crappies again. I usually get a few. Typically fish from the permanent house in 12 feet of water on a central MN lake. I typically drop the crappie rigs with one about half way down the other 3 feet off the bottom. I like to fish over weeds so usually the weeds stick up about 1-2 feet froom the bottom.)
