Vexilar HELP!

Got a question for you guys.

I have an FL-18 that I've had since they first came out. Over the last year or two I've noticed a major loss of power. I have to have the gain almost all of the way up to see my jigs.

I am also unable to hear the transducer pings when out of the water (the rapid ticking if pointed at a wall or held to my ear.) It has a dual ice-ducer and only works on the wide 19 degree setting.

I'm assuming it is a transducer problem (since only one beam works), but is there any chance of it being the unit itself?

Bought a new Bird 45, but want to get this baby back in operation for the misses and to use as a backup.

Try borrowing a transducer from a friend for a little while and see if the unit works any better or call or e-mail Vexilar customer service.

Probably the transducer, they can go bad if they are knocked against the ice while walking or if it is dragged along on bumpy ice, etc.

I believe that Vexilar makes a "rebuild" kit, I think it replaces the brushes. People say that it works wonders.

Either the tranducer or you may have to clean the brushes or send it to Vexilar to get them cleaned.

One word "Tansducer", Should cure everything, that is so long as the dial is spinning and you can hear it as with all vex units, but the problem you have is all in the ducer.

I would say that your issue is likely a transducer. See if a friend has a ducer you can try out just to be absolutely sure of the issue, and then go ahead and pick up a new ducer. From the way you say it only works on the 19 degree setting it sounds like it may have been damaged in some way. That also would be the reason you have to crank the gain way up.
