Auger Blades

How often should Auger Blades be sharpened or switched out? I have a Strikemaster if that makes any difference. Any help appreciated.

Chipper blades are easily touched up with a stone or file, shaver blades replace when dull. Also file the power point if it's dull it will cut hard...When I ran Strikemaster I went through a set of blades a season and always carried a spare set....Some seem to get more life out of theres thats just my experience...I figure since going to my Nils I have saved $150 by not having to buy new blades every season, I do have a spare head for that to that cost me $60 but still $90 ahead

I will run a set of blades no more then 2 seasons. like was already said it would depend on how much the auger was used and it you hit stuff frozen in the ice (ie : sand, gravel, or garbage left by others). I found out the best deal on strikemaster blades by using the blade exchange right at their shop. the exchange blades are brand new blades but are listed as exchange because they don't come in the clam pack like the "new" blades do. the guy at strikemaster told me this. by them not being in the clam pack they are able to offer them cheaper but you need to give them your old blades. I guess they make up the price difference when they recycle the old blades as scrap.
