My Permanent Got Moldy

Hello I was dismayed to find the interior of my home made permanent fish house covered with black mold earlier this past summer. I washed the interior with a strong bleach solution, let it dry and then completely repainted it. A few weeks ago, I checked on it and to my surprise and disappointment, found it to be even worse shape then before.

I have it stored on my side yard, in the shade and right next to a wetland area.

1) Does anybody else have this problem and, if so, how do you deal with it?

2) Give the health hazard of mold, Am I going to have to take off the interior walls and ceiling and remove the foam insulation panels ?

You must have a leak somewhere that's letting moisture in. We had some mold in our windows because water was getting in through the top. Alot of caulking and the problem is gone.

Can you post some pics of the interior and exterior so we can get an idea of what your shack looks like?

I have not tried to post a picture for a long time, but I recall a difficult and unsuccessful attempt in the past. Is it any easier nowadays?

The problem with cleaning a mold infected area with bleach is that it will only mask the problem not solve it. The mold spores still remain in the finish and eventually make there way back out. Kind of like not priming a water spot area, just painting over it will eventually cause it to bleed through. Here is a web site for a product line that does a really good job, and specifically addresses black mold. Not sure if its only available on line or if they also offer it through retail outlets. I would take off a section of your interior wall to check for mold. I would bet you'll find some inside the walls.

broman: good point. yes if the source of the problem is not eradicated nothing will solve the problem. mold is a major issue, not just in fish houses either....
