New Hub Shack Design

So, its been a few years now since the Hub design has been out - and things have really been taking off with these shelters. Actually, beyond what I thought would happen. But now, these shelters are being sold more and more each year and you see them popping up all over the ice. They are a great concept for those who want to pack light, and for those who have to transport gear with cars and or have limited space to store equipment, IMHO, they are the best option out there.

But, now, for those looking for extreme portability and some very lightweight, with the easy of set-up, Clam Corp, has come out with another great design - the Twin Hub I and Twin Hub II.Only two hubs to push out for set-up, these things sets up and breaks down in mere seconds. And only weighing 12 and 15lbs, you can strap these two shelters on your back or put either of them in a lightweight sled, with the rest of you gear, and pull it anywhere, in pretty much any snow or ice conditions.

Pretty cool concept and one that should sell very well, to ice users all across the board. Will be cool for me to strap a few of these on a snowmobile and be on my way without having to tow anything behind..

Not sure I care for that design - have to stand up in the middle to avoid rubbing on the walls. Also, I think the door disign gives you no real option to bank up any snow to stop any wind from glowing under it (problem for Buddy type heaters. You can go with a 2 man hub design that should feel roomier at only a few more pounds (18 lbs). I'd be suprised to see this take off for anyone except a very small market IMO.

As for great designs .. although the new Eskimo "Fatfish" isn't a radically new design, it is a leap forward to improving on the original design by flairing out the bottom to significantly increase the available floor space without adding any more weight or much more colapsed bulk.

i saw one at gander today. I don't much care for it either. I own two clams so am not biased against clam. I just personally didnt like how it felt inside for me. Not saying it doesnt fill a void because it does. I feel that its great that they are lower cost options than some others. I'm in the market for a one man for early ice when I don't bring my kid and my god have they gotten expensive and heavy. I looked at a super cool one man that weighed 78 pounds. thats a lot of weight to drag long distances by hand.

It does make sense. It targets a new audience. I viewed it as a great shelter for someone who wants to try ice fishing and not spend a ton of money. I'll bet we see quite a few out there this year. Its amazing how well the hubs have taken off. I use my hub more often than my clam guide flip over.
