Propane vs. Gas

I just picked up a jiffy propane ice auger... it runs really smooth but have yet to actually drill with it... I'm looking for a little insight on the pros and cons and such a unit and which one you guys prefer and why.

Also-- The directions said to be sure to keep the head of the unit verticle when storing, transporting and using... might be tough to transport it standing up without taking the head off everytime...is this really necessary or do you think i'd be fine laying it down in the sled when i head out to the lake?

I just got mine yesterday also. The other thread people complain about them being much heavier. Do any of you above use them in a portable house? I will be pulling mine around by hand in a plastic sled.

Mince started up really nice but it did seem that it may run a little slower and it might take awhile to cut through the ice? Not sure though.

Also mine will be outside while I'm in the portable and just wondering about the freezing issue if any.

Bass; Heavy? Sure...but you probably knew that when you bought it. It'll be good exercise lugging it around:)

I agree it sounds like it runs a little slow, but it cuts about the same as my 3 hp Jiffy did.

As for freezing...I left mine out on some pretty cold days (all night once to test it) and it didn't fail me. That being said, I kept a spare 1 pounder in with me and my gear just in case. It only takes a sec to switch cylinders.

Wouldn't it have been more profitable to ask this question before you made your purchase? After the fact it becomes a moot point, doesn't it?

traveler thanks for the input. I figured I would be happy with it. I'm trying to fit everything in my sled right now but it's to small. Might have to just bunji all my gear. I think I'm throwing skis on the bottom of the sled also.

Thanks again for the info and everyone be safe!

Bob, it really doesn't matter if he bought it prior to looking into it. Maybe he did a bunch of research and then noticed someone talking about it later and he thought he would ask some extra questions. Like I did with the freezing issue. I personally have never dealt with 1lb propane tanks in the winter.

There is always that site that you can sell things on a-sales-site. You can make your cash back very easily.
