drywall screws

Recommended Posts

It has been a while since I've done drywall, but from what I can remember we used different length screws for 5/8 inch ceiling than for 1/2 inch walls. Everything I read now says 1 1/4" coarse screws are sufficient for both applications. Does anyone recommend different?

Going into wood studs, all wires are run direct center of the studs so I'm not worried about shorting anything out.

Thanks for the advice guys, I followed it and picked up 1 5/8 screws.. now I know what you mean by the screws tipping. I don't think I've used them this long ever before, but it's been over 8 years since I was doing drywall.

Any recommendations here? Been a PITA arm-banging it only to have the screw flop the the floor when I go to drive it home. I don't remember it being this difficult, I'm working with a new dewalt drywall gun.

I suspect the local rental company will be getting my business for a drywall jack very soon too smile
