block engine heater

Recommended Posts

The only two I am familiar with are the Zerostart and Kat's. Most of the ones I have installed are Zerostart. You can expect to pay about $50 for the part at the parts store and anywhere from 1/2 to 1 hour of labor depending on where it needs to be installed.

A word of caution if you want to buy the part yourself. If it leaks, doesn't work, or stops working than you will be footing the bill on the labor to replace it since it is your part. If the part is under warranty from the parts store you will be able to get a new part but they will likely not give a labor claim on the item.

These can and do stop working. I have had three bad ones in a row on a tacoma. The third one was the charm! (why anyone would put one in a toyota is beyond me?

Make sure it is not equipped from the factory! Many are surprised when we show them the cord for the block heater neatly bound up and stuffed into a corner.
