Ok. Kind of a long story on this. A little bit of bad blood in the admin from both schools that started when NDSU first jump ship to go D1. I heard it will be 5 years before this rilvary is renewed at a minimum.

Trvia question. oldest college football rilvary use to be the NDSU/UND rilvary depending on which source I guess. Ended 2003 went back 110 years before that. They played for the Nickel trohy which UND still has smile.

UND ended that rilvary when they refuse to play NDSU when they first went D1. NDSU had trouble filling its schedule back then. I guesss there's two sides to that story but I saw it as politics getting in the way of what the fans wanted IMO. So now NDSU is in one conference and UND is in the Big Sky starting next year. UND also has the nickname thing hanging over its head which has complicated there conversion to D1. There's a thread in the hockey forum if your interested in that. Hopefully soon this two schools can get back to playing each other those games were always the best of the year.

Good to see NDSU having success in there football & basketball program.

It is absurd that they have not renewed this rivalry. Just does not make sense.

Any word on this?

NDSU's rivalry is with SDSU now since UND was too chicken to play them anymore and bitter that NDSU went D1 before they did. wink

The Dakota Marker trophy is home in Fargo!

A UND vs NDSU rivalry would be crazy good for ND. UND has a team that could/would compete, I think they were ranked 18th before this week.

Any in state rivalries are awesome. Remember the days at Dakotah Field and throwing bottles at Ed Schultz, great times.

I agree RF. There's nothing like a instate rilvary. Especially two towns that are so close... together that is grin. There's always been competition between the two towns.

You must of live in the Fargo area bringing up the bottle incident. Hey LMIT was Ed Schutz a college buddy of yours grin. He my have been a Moorehead st alum.

Not quite true, Minnesota and Wisconsin is said to be the longest running college rivalry with 120 continuous meetings dating back to 1890.

Regardless, I can understand how you feel as I thought we were going to lose our rivalry game with Wisconsin when they created the divisions in the Big 10 and separated the two teams.

Blame UND for killing the rivalry there the ones that called a press conference stating that they would no longer play NDSU. They will play someday, but who knows when. NDSU is in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and has schedules made up for the next few years. And UND is going to be in the Big Sky next year. SDSU and Northern Iowa, especially Northern Iowa are NDSU's rivals now.

There was hope a couple of years ago...maybe it was just last year that NDSU was gonna join the Big Sky conf which would have put UND/NDSU playing each other every year. Obviously that didn't happen. I'm still holding on hope that something can fall through for these two to play each other.

I remember the Bison game last year which went into overtime against Eastern Washington. The Bison almost pulled that one off. There was a questionable call at the end of the game.

Very questionable call at the end. The only thing more questionable was that horrible red-colored field E Washington has. Who was the genius behind that idea? crazy

Alum, NFL Tennesse Titan OT Michael Roos donated the money for the field.
