larryz
Can anyone tell me how long it should take a small engine mechanic to put a carb kit in a 5hp Briggs & Stratton? Troy Bilt tiller if it matters. Thanks
dairyman
I think most shops have a 1 hour min labor charge---should be able to do it in that time frame. Actually if your fairly handy you should be able to do it yourself........that being said you can't beat a mechanics experience!!!!
larryz
I was just curious. I got charged for two hours, $144.00 labor. They were suppose to call me with an estimate and did not. I thought two hours was a lot.
eurolarva
144 is not a bad deal. Labor is based as mentioned on time it takes to remove carb, rebuild carb and test carb. If the machine works good you should probably live with it. In the future you need to stabilize your gas. If it is a a 4 stroke run the gas out of the carb and fog it. It is a pain but gas is lousy these days and you are lucky to get it to maintain itself for more then 6 months. You probably could have bought a new carb for around 70 bucks but then you would have had to install it. When spring gets here put stabilizer in the gas and run it every couple of months or . Run the gas out till the motor dies.
