FL-12 or FL-20?

I'm looking at getting a new Vex. Is the auto zoom really worth the extra expense? I primarily fish panfish, but want to get into more walleye fishing, which has me leaning towards the 20, but how much of a difference does the zoom make? I assume the 12 would still show the same information, just without the insane amount of detail right?

If you are going to target walleye, get the zoom. No doubt about it.

I have a fl12 and a fl22 . The fl20 won't show a whole lot more detail than the fl12 but there are times the zoom is nice. If you have the extra coin for the fl20 I would say get it and then if the zoom is something you find yourself using a lot you will be glad you did.

the zoom is the greatest option ever invented for the flasher, and yes it is good for panfish as well as eye's.

dude what are you talking about?? the FL12 is a flat scree upgrade of the FL8. there are many different options on the FL20, like the zoom at 6, and 12 feet, just watch these vids. also has the low power setting for weed fishing.

The fl12 has the low power mode. I was also recommending the fl20 if you can afford it, I know it offers more than the fl12.

I was in the exact same boat as you are right now a few ice seasons ago. I had been debating for months on whether to purchase the FL-12 or the FL-20. Like you, I fish primarily for panfish, but have always wanted to do more walleye fishing through the ice. I researched a lot and read countless reviews on other individual's opinions. I then weighed all of the pros and cons about each unit and I decided that the features of the FL-20 were worth the extra money. I absolutely love the zoom feature especially when you find a school of fish near the bottom. The zoom allows you to see into a heavy school and allow you to pick up your jig with the added target separation if offers. If you have the extra money, don't hesitate to purchase the FL-20 but either way you won't be disappointed IMO.
