Original Genz Fish Trap?

About a month ago I bought an old flip over portable on an online auction. Not knowing much about it I picked it up brought it home and tucked away waiting for winter.

A few days later at the Thorn Bros get together I ran into the gentleman with the 70's/80's display setup with a house almost identical to mine. He said it was a Fish Trap II and was made by Dave Genz in his garage.

Does anybody have any direct knowledge regarding these old fish traps that Dave Genz made out of his garage? I'm trying to learn a little more on the history. Mine is nearly identical but has faded yellow canvas instead of white and doesn't contain any stenciling on the back like the one at the show. I'm wondering if mine is perhaps a Fish Trap 1? The wooden base/bench appears identical even down to the small wooden runners on the bottom.

Anyways, I think these things are cool and I'm hoping mine was indeed made by Genz. These shacks completely revolutionized the ice fishing world. If anybody has any details that can help me trace mine back to Genz garage it would be greatly appreciated.

I just purchased an older Dave Genz Fish Trap portable ice shelter on hsolist this morning as a X-mas present for my husband. I am wondering if this was one of the originals as I can't find this online for sale anymore. It was originally bought at least 10 years ago at FleetFarm) up in Brainerd. Here's a link to the pics if anyone can provide a bit more information. I am thrilled and honored to own one of Dave Genz products.

All I can say is Dave Genz is one quality guy. He is a very friendly person that truly enjoys fishing and being involved in the making of his products. He also truly enjoys talking to people about fishing and the outdoors.... Say hi to him at any Sportshow and you will know what I mean.
