Fish Trap Guide vs. Frabill XLTwin vs. Otter Medium Cabin???

huskminn

Question

I'm in the market for a new two-man house. I have read many posts on the pros and cons of each brand......I'm not looking at the Eskimo since it probably doesn't have the durability I am looking for.

I haven't seen anyone comment on the Frabill yet, seems like I'm leaning towards the Trap....the Otter may be too heavy and too expensive for frequent one-man use.

The Trap Guide seems like a decent compromise on weight, expense and durability.

Comments folks?

I am going have to go with the xlt, I sell all of the models and I also own the frabill it is the cats meow I have no complaints and it pulls great over snow, ice whatever. Another point someone else made is go into a store like gander or something and sit in the trap and look through it, you wont believe how thin the fabric is,so which would you rather have in the blowing wind. Everyone loves the traps cause they were the first around and genz designed them they are nice but frabill just has a better fabric.

Ditto to getting the fold-up Aluminum chair at Target!

I paid $35.00 for the seat that rides on the bar and it tips, it's narrow and has no arm rests, I can sit in my Otter, rest my arm on the chair, Jig and sip on a Stinger all at the same time!

Let's get back to the need for a Two-Man size set-up--they're all going to be tougher to pull around than a small one just by the nature of its size.

Also, let's talk customer service--An old friend of mine had gotten into my Stinger Bottle a little too much one night, he accidently towed my Otter into a Tree and bent 2 of my cover supports beyond repair. I called Otter, ordered the new poles and they sent me 2 extras at no extra charge!

Also, Steel poles are more brittle than Aluminum--I've been able to "tweak" my cover poles for minor repairs and get on my way, I don't think it would be the same for Steele which may be harder to bend and easier to snap.

Color? Dark Green on the Otter verses Black on the XLT--debate this one all day--Isn't it either cloudy or dark for the most part anyway?

I see the Otter folks are out in force now... grin.gif

Dave,
Before I could ever get an ATV and an Otter, she'd make me buy her a $30,000 bass boat. I don't want a bass boat so my best bet is to leave her out of this!

Pwaldow,
One of my problems is that I have never fished out of any flip-style house, so I have trouble visualizing how a $10 Target chair would set up in any of them, etc.

Otter this, Otter that.....I bought a Fish Trap Guide last night, but I'm saving all the packaging just in case I want to put it back in the box after I have it set up.

To you Otter fans: I am in no way denying that the Otter may be the highest quality house/sled out there.....just not sure if I need that quality (weight and expense) right now. Get my drift?

Hey.....thanks for all the info guys!

No man I am sorry I didnt even realize that. My friend bought one last year and he still owns it. They are nice houses and the price is right. I saved for a while for the otter and I enjoy it everytime I go out.

Enjoy your FishTrap Huskminn, you will like it. Good luck fishin

I'd just like to say that I've enjoyed this thread, as I will be making a two-man portable purchase next fall. From these posts, I'm leaning towards the otter, since I'll be pulling it around alot. Huskminn, I'm sure you'll be happy with the fishtrap. What was the final price tag for it when it was all said and done.

thanks again for the infor. Keep it coming if you have anything to add.
