Reheating Brats

Recommended Posts

I am pretty new to smoking. Just smoked up some great bear and beef jerkey and beef sticks today. For party on Saturday, I buy fresh bratwurst, then simmer for about 15 minutes, cool them, then brown them on the grill before serving (about 15 minutes). How long do you think I would need to smoke them to flavor them up more and to get them brown? I am thinking about an hour but probably no more. Would that be about right? I have a propane smoker, Great Mountain or something like that. Thanks!

if you brought fresh brats and have pre cooked them [simmering them in onions and beer for example] and then put them on the grill to basicly get the grill marks and heat them up thats about what i would suggest. if you want to throw some hickory chips on your coals during the process that may give you some smoke flavor.

what your describing to me is basicly what i would do with fresh brats. when you buy fresh brats, cook them, and then "smoke them" for an hour or so they would dry up to something you would not want to eat.

smoked brats are made with seasonings that you would use for fresh brats but you would also need prague powder [a cure] or otherwise known as foran n/n cure [the pink stuff. 1 oz per 25 pounds. totaly different than what you are describing to me.

so just cook them as you described and throw them on the grill till heated and enjoy. i hope that helped you. smoked brats are a differn't animal all together. good luck.
