More Camera Talk

I've been kicking the idea of a Marcum camrea around. Comparable to the other thread, I fish primarily in stained water. My buddy has an older Marcum 380 that I would questimate has about 12-18 inches of range depending on conditions. My first question is do you guys/gals think the newer cameras will increase that range at all? If I do pull the trigger on a camera it will be either a 620 or 625. Is the 625 that much better than the 620 if you set the color option aside? I also have noticed alot of people saying they bought one for the kids, but from what I've seen so far, these things are also a blast for us big kids.

I cannot say either way on the Marcum cameras. I have one of their flashers & it does work well. I can tell you that cameras are fun for use big kids too. I just have the portable Aqua Vu. Micro camera & that units is just fun to go explore the underwater world of fish. It sounds like Aqua vu & Marcum are going to be at the ice fishing show so you can check out all the lastest & greatest out there too. Better to research now then have buyers regret later.

Walleye, thanks for the input. I just came home from arguably the best store in the world for Lake Superior fishing and Russ told me that they would have the new Marcum stuff in stock in the next few days. Sorry guys no LX7 yet. Anyways he knew what my questions were and said we can figure out which model will suit me best when they come in. Anybody else with any hands on with the 620, 625 or both please chime in.

Thanks Dave

I just posted this info in another thread, but will answer it here too........

You cannot do "legitimate" underwater camera comparisons inside a store because of the lighting --- it is too bright and not natural --- and all cameras will look great with that much available light. The differences will ONLY show up when you get the cameras out on the ice in real-world fishing situations.

But with that said, the only difference in the VS625SD and the VS620 is the color option. The VS625SD and the VS620 will have IDENTICAL performance in the black/white mode. The color option is nice, especially under good viewing conditions, and it's up to you if the extra $150 is worth it or is in your budget.

For your question about how much more viewing range you'll have than your brother's camera, that's a tough one to answer. My best guess is that you'll be able to see a little farther, but it won't be that much of a difference. Stained water really limits how far you can see with an underwater camera.

Hope that helps!
