Accessing Lakes with Large Perms?

I recently purchased a 18' Salem Ice Cabin. having some buyers remorse that i went to big and will have problems accessing most lakes? I have yet to pull it as it is still at the dealers. Any input on how larger perms are for accessing lakes and any do's and dont's?

Thanks

Basically just looking if the ground clearance works better than they look. I had an 8x12 home built with great ground clearance and never had a problem. Just checking if theres anyone out there with a Salem or larger house that have found the hassles are greater than the rewards of a larger house?

Thanks

You should be just fine. I pulled my 8X16 up the sportsman's access on Mille Lacs last year without issue. If you've ever seen that access, you may feel better about your purchase.

Sometimes it helps to go down sideways. That'll help cut the chance of bottoming out the back of the house on the access. I'd say you should be fine at 90% of the access.

On the bigger lakes for a small fee ($10) you can get on the lake by a resort and use their plowed roads. The money is worth paying especially if you run into problems and need some assistance. Also if you pay the $$$ you can usually get them to plow a spot off the main road for your wheel house.

You might have more of a problem trying to get onto smaller local lakes with out plowed roads. We usually wait till we see atleast 1 or 2 other houses of similar size out on the lake before we pull our 8x16 out on the ice.

My uncle had problems at some launches with the back of his house dragging, so he bought a strip of hyfax and mounted it on the underside of the rear end. It still drags but it doesnt rip up the back of his house now.
