My wife and I are looking at upgrading to a new camera, currently we have a Cannon S2is. It is a decent camera but looking for something newer. I've been looking at the DSLR's both (Cannon and Nikon) but don't know what brand to get, and something in the entry level model. We are looking at spending between $500-$600 on the camera and lens together. This would be something to purchase in the future probably around Christmas when everything goes on sale.

We would primarily be using it for landscape photography but also some closer up images of insects, flowers, and such.
