Ruger HM77R 25-06

Recommended Posts

They'll both kill deer just fine. The .25 will shoot flatter than the .30. The .30 will be somewhat less susceptible to wind drift. The .25 should have less recoil. The .30 might be easier/ cheaper to track down ammunition for.

Basically, it comes down to what YOU want to shoot for YOUR particular situation. If you plan to shoot bigger game than whitetails in North America (elk, moose, bear) you might want to stick with the .30 because you can find heavier bullets, but if you shoot the .25 noticeably better that might be a better choice for you even on those animals than the .30. Bullet selection (moreso for the .25 than the .30, at least on whitetails) and shot placement are much more important than the number on the box.
