Fall Muskies on Mille Lacs

People keep telling me about fishing the sand on the north end of Mille Lacs in the fall and how good it is. I'm going to try it this year but I'm going in blind. Fishing sand seems so foreign to me. Where do I start? (which access is best to put in at?). What depth do I fish? Do you cast or troll? And which baits seem to work best? I am a seasoned muskie fisherman and have fished up into November before but this is new territory for me! Thanks for any information that anyone can give me!

whether you're in the metro or on ML better get used to fishing sand cause that's where a lot of the action is. bare sand spots and shorelines in the metro are musky magnets this time of year.

IMO the best way to attack the sand on the north end is to hold your boat in 2 feet of water and cast out toward the weeds. smaller fast bucktails and topwaters. east myr mar to down past malmo there is good sand so take your pick on spots. as you move your boat along in the shallows you'll see spots where the cabbage grows up shallower and those seem to be hot spots. you're not too shallow unless your boat is dragging the sand. windows and all that stuff still apply but if you're in a good area you should be able to see some fish one way or another. good post frontal pattern, good luck.
