I've never been much of a reader. I read what was required at school, and in my profession. Beyond that, there are few books that have caught my attention.

Dtro recommended this a few months back, i really enjoyed the style of writing and the information accompanied with the tales to keep my interest. If you like to fish the river, this is a good book for you.

I'm looking for some more books to read over the next year and would appreciate what you can recommend. Species i'd like to learn more about:

Sturgeon

Walleye

Northern

Crappie

Deer

And maybe just a good all around minnesota outdoorsman book.

I won't shun you if you post a book about bass

I'm a big reader and all three of these are great books, and in our area, too.

Kenny Salwey...Tales of a River Rat, The Old Time River Rats, and The Last River Rat.

A Time to Fish and a Time to Dry Nets is a great read, all about the commercial fishing industry in MN, focusing on Warroad/LOW.

A Look at Life From a Deerstand was written by Steven Curtis Chapman and is a good, easy read.

Most of these types of books will give you a great background into whatever species you are after. I learned a ton from the CC walleye series. The vids are good as well.

Some books I have enjoyed:

Minnesota Seasons, edited by Scott Bestul.

How to Eat Like a Wildman, put out by Sports Afield. It's a collection of reader-submitted recipies, along with some essays/ memoirs from the staff and readers. It's entertaining and it'll help you put some good food on the table.

There's also a great book, but I can't remember the title. Something like Gun Dog. It's not a training book, but a collection of stories about hunting dogs. It's a pretty good read, anyone have any idea what the title is? I think it was published here in Minnesota.

Three that I would recommend are Trails End, which has to do with Red lake and the Petroske family. This is a great read about the early days of surviving in the Upper Red Lake area. The other two are stories regarding a game warden who worked that area Bill Calles (i think I have his last name spelled correctly) This comes in volume 1 and 2. I got these two at Gander. All three are very good. +

Correction on the first title on my previous post; it is called On the Trail, and the author is Alfred Petroske, not Trails End. My bad.....

Sam Cook has some good books they have been around for awhile.

They are more short stories but a good read.

Anyone read patrick mcmanus, just for pure enjoyment? He is easily the most recommended author of mine to not just outdoors people but everyone.
