Hidden folders

I went to open some documents today and the folders are missing? I searched for them and found some. under properties they where listed as hidden. I unhidd them and they reappeared. The problem is I can't find several of the folders when I search.

When I went to reinstall them off from my backup disk it says the folder already exists. when I search it isn't found and it is not visible in the open files window?

what do I do?

Make sure you are logged on as end user.

With XP, from windows explorer, go to tools, then top folder options, then view tab and make sure that show hidden files and folder is checked.

Windows 7, from windows explorer, click organize, then folder and search options, then the view tab, and make sure that the show hidden files and folders and drives is checked.

I should have mentioned I use Vista, sorry!

should be similar to windows 7 I think, not as familiar with Vista.
