Honest big gills in NC Iowa

I live south of Mason City in Hampton, IA and I'm looking for some honest big gills in the area. By big gills, I mean averaging 8 inches with 10 and 11 inchers a possibility but hardly the rule. I moved here from NE SD this last summer and have been lamenting the loss of my perch fishing, everyone told me the gills in Iowa will make up for it, but my season best is 8 inches out if Beeds Lake. Are there big gills around and I"m not trying hard enough? I'm willing to go up to 50-60 miles away from home. I was not stictly a perch fisherman and I cut my teeth on big gills in central SD, I know how to catch them. I'm getting lots of little ones, but the big ones elude me. Please point me in the right direction. I'd be willing to trade for some inside perch info in NE SD which I have access to.
