Wigeon
Out Sat. chasing gills I was using a genz worm. Pulled a few crappie so I switched to a small forage minnow. Crappies hit it hard. I gave that setup to my girlfriend and I took her setup ladybug and larva. Checked on her after 10 minutes and she was catching gills with it, while I had nothing with the smaller presentation. I grabbed my camera and found in 12' it was fairly clear while 14-20' I could not see. I assumed the fish were after the glow jig not the bigger presentation or am I wrong. I have caught gills using small pimples already. The smaller non glowing jigs did not work so hot. Could not find my smaller glow jigs to try. Scott Steil
If you were using the real small forage minnow I have had similar experiences. I think it is the combo of both the glow of the spoon and the fact that it is very visable to gills. In really dark water it is commom to have to "up-size" some. You want to use something that will get noticed. You probably could have put on the biggest genz worm and had similar luck. That ice is thick now and there is a lot of snow on the lakes. There is not much light penetrating the ice sheet anymore. Perfect example of when to try going bigger versus smaller.
Wigeon
Scott, thanks for the information. It was the smallest forage minnow we were using.
