Recommended livewell size for League fishing?

fuzzyray

Question

I recently bought an older boat that I intend to use in a multispecies league next summer. It had a livewell but a very small one. Measured it up and it only holds about 10 gal of water. I an going to modify the system and add a larger livewell but am not sure how big to go. Can anyone tell me a typical livewell size (gallons of water) for this type of fishing? I looked at a lot of boat sites but most do not list size of livewells, just the number and location in boat. Thanks everyone.

The livewells on most multi species tournament rigs are in the 50"+ range. That sounds real big on paper but you get 5 fish in there over 24" and it fills up real fast, especially if there is a dead fish penalty.

I'd say in your situation, just build one as big as you can reasonable get away with. It can never be to big, but it can be to small.
