Saving waypoints on computer?

How can I download my SD card on my computer and save my waypoints?

I'm not sure if this is a thing that can be done without some sort of software or a special card reader?

I do have a spot on my tower to insert the SD card.

stick the SD card in the slot adn it will become a drive to windows, copy the files to where you want to store them, eject the drive via windows, you are done.

We did do that and stored them in a folder, but windows won't let us open the files and look at the waypoints.

It says windows does not recognize these files?

You're going to have to download a free program like EasyGPS or GPSTrackmaker to read that file. After you download one of these programs you can edit your waypoints any way you feel, GPSTrackmaker will allow you to super-impose your waypoints onto Google Earth if you have that program installed too.

probably not, they are probably in a proprietary format, check the gps manufacturers HSOforum for a viewer/editor, if not contact their customer service.

Or look at the file extension, the part after the dot and search Google for a viewer/editor.

I did the Easy GPS, and it didn't seem so easy. It would only store and transfer 1000 waypoints and Icons. I have around 1300 total.

1300 waypoints!? WOW! that's a lot and that could very well be a limitation to a free program too I don't know, I don't think I have more than a couple hundred between the GPS's I have. I'm not sure if GPSTrackmaker ( gpstm ) has a limitation or not but it's worth a shot, I like that program better anyway, I believe their newest version is 13.8, once you get to their site, there is a free download button at the bottom of the page, that should get you where you want to be.

Once you download it, you should be able to open the file you saved to your computer from your SD card, launch GPSTrackmaker and click on File and then OPEN and then navigate to your file located on your computer.

You can download direct from the GPS with this program too if your GPS has a serial or USB connection.

I also put in a e-mail to lowrance to find out if they have a program to download.

How about purchasing the lakemaster PC software and uploading your waypoints to the lake maps.

Lakemaster only limits the waypoints to the lakes they offer.

I have the countour elite, lakemaster told me when I ordered it that I could do this, store all my waypoints with this software. So I spent the $180.

They were wrong, and I'm out $180 because I believed them!!
