Why leadcore

Recommended Posts

Been reading abit on leadcore at nextbite dot com, and will probably try it one day, but was kind of curious as to why someone wouldn't just use a deep diving shad rap instead.
could someone explain the advantages?
thanks

p.s. also I understand it as far as getting the shallow running lures down deep, but then they were talking about putting a piece of mono on the FRONT (start) of the leadcore to, so they could run the lures shallower.
WHY? why not just run a shallow running crank bait?
Is the main purpose just to get the lure where you want it useing troll speed?

thanks

Leadcore gives you a lot of versatility for deep water trolling. Think of it as being a substitute for using jets, dipseys or downriggers.

Just another way of getting your lures deep with a minimal amount of equipment.

Sometimes cranking up the speed is the last thing you want to do. Also speed usually just gets the lure down there quicker. Most lures have a maximum depth whether you're going a moderate or fast speed. Plus sometimes the fish want a certain action. They may not hit a deep diving thunderstick, bomber long A or Reef Runner. Maybe they want a #9 jointed rapala down at 35 ft.

The mono is just for a leader, you wouldn't want to tie the lure directly to leadcore. One nice thing about leadcore is you can adjust to depth changes by speeding up or slowing down the boat. The line will sink deeper if you slow the boat down. So, if you are trolling a breakline or a series of humps you don't need to be constantly taking in or letting out line.
