Pre-Season Walleye Warmups

I know the Walleye Opener is tradition in Minnesota. My question is why do you have to wait until then?
There are many areas of oppertunity to fish walleyes before the opener.
The first one that comes to mind is a personal favorite.
The Mississippi River. There are open season areas all the way from Pool 2 to the Iowa border. It is not uncommon to catch 100 fish a day when a strong bite is going.
Another favorite of mine is Big Stone Lake near Ortonville Mn. This is no secret to many folkes in western Minnesota. With the opener at the end of April the fishing can be fabulous. Traverse is another SD borderwater the deserves mention (although I have never fished it). In fact, there is no season at all for walleyes in South Dakota so the whole state is pretty much fair game.
Back to Minnesota. Rainy River, click on the video link at the top of this page. Need I say more!
St. Louis River near Duluth. I'm not sure on the opening date, but I know it is a few weeks earlier the statewide opener.
I think by now you are starting to catch my drift.(pun intended)
So talk to the boss and see if you can get off work for a day or two and check out one of the many options available. May be even take him/her along.
This is a sure cure to the winter frustrations that are most likely setting in right now.
