Weeds - Exotics on trailer, who is to blame?

the littering thing is another topic and i agree with bobbymalone - it's both fishermen and pleasure boaters who just don't care.

And some care almost to a fault. More than once we've been cruising in the boat in the Croix and a can rolls out from under a seat, catches some wind, and it GONE. But wait, next we see Joe (made up name) sitting shotgun, bolt to the back of the boat and dive overboard while traveling 25mph to retrieve said can.

Interesting to see, but could have some bad consequences.

It doesn't matter how much you fine violators or how many times you rinse your boat. Invasive species are here to stay. It is IMPOSSIBLE to stop the spread. We can only hope to slow it down. At what cost and for how long?? We would have to require boats to be lifted off of trailers to be decontaminated in order to get all the weeds, bugs, snails, etc out from under the bunks and rollers. Who is checking the birds and wildlife? Who are we kidding? Fisherman, pleasure boaters, and lakeshore owners will eventually get it. I doubt the lawmakers ever will. At least publicly, they can't admit the truth anyway...

i agree very much with your post. that is the point of the whole sticker thing and all the rest. pulling weeds, rinsing boats, fresh water for bait to take home [one of the most rediculus laws ever] pulling the plug, and all the rest [exept the bait bucket attempt] have been around for years.

how many of you know of those little man made ponds in new home construction areas that were never planted with any fish, have now at least some form of fish life in them? how did they get there? i have an opinion that ducks and other water birds have been one of the sources.

does not mean we should not do what is required to control the spread of invasive species or anything else not wanted in a body of water. unfortunatly it will happen, and in some cases not done through careless behaviour. good luck.
