Mercury 125

Recommended Posts

After 6 years of no problems my Mercury decided while on vacation to give me trouble. Looking to see if anyone else has had this. After fishing for a few hours decided to head in for lunch, engine started fine, took off out of the hole no problem, got about 200 yeards down the lake then there was a grinding/whining noise and had no more forward movement. Engine starts fine but there does not appear to be any engagement, checked linkage, didn't see anything amiss, pulled prop, no fishing line or anything. drained and refilled lower unit myself 2 months ago. anybody?

Pull the lower gearcase plug and look for metal on the magnet. If something broke in there it should be messy. Check the prop hub for slipping as well, that's an easy fix.
