Hey guys I have a question you can hopefully answer for me. I usually fish Waconia the first couple of weeks in the season and just fish by Harm's Point right before th sun goes down with a jig and minnow and usually get a few. Im starting to get the itch to try to gets ome walleyes on Waconia again. Everyone I have talked to says to try the reefs..So i went out to what my GPS called North reef and gave it a shot. It went from about 15 ft and weeds everywhee to about 20 feet and no weeds almost instantly so I anchored up. Me and a buddy fished it from about 7:30 til 10 mostly pitching jigs and minnows.. Got about 10 sheephead but no eyes..Is this how your suppoesed to fish them out there? Or do yu guy have any better tips? Thanks

Slip bobbers with a leech usually produces well for me on reefs or along weed lines for that matter. I've never been too big of a fan of minnows at this time of year. Hard to keep them alive and crawlers, leeches, and cranks usually out produce them anyways. Good luck

I my self was out on Waconia not two weeks ago. Fished kegs reef and the small reef or high point just a little west of the island. My sister cought three sheep head or some one told me they were drums. Fished from 7 to midnight,12 to 18'. Slip bobber. Fished Leaches and minnows. Have had no luck out there. But its seems I have had bad luck last three years. Next time I go there I was told to go troll the clay banks 10' to 5'. Or do what I saw others do move up into the 6 to 10' weeds and try that on the reefs. Good luck.

Sheepshead (freshwater) = Freshwater drum

Same species, many names laugh

For what it's worth, the book "Fishing for Buffalo" claims that freshwater drum is every bit as good as walleye, flaky white flesh that doesn't have much of any 'fishy' taste.
