mrpike1973
hi i have a 15 horse 78 evinrude. i just noticed sometimes not always when accelerating. it feels like the prop races like it came out of gear but it stays in and it isnt the moter missing or sputtering. i have heard clutch dogs could do this. i dont know any thing about it is my moter shot or can i keep running it thanks
boatfixer
Any clunking or banging? if no, just "slipping" then Id suspect the prop hub. You can remove the prop, use a marker or something simalar to mark across the hub and prop, try it again and look to see if the lines still match up. boatfixer
No, you cant goof it up. The hub is the part that the shaft slides into, it is "held", if you will, to the rest of the prop by rubber. The rubber can loose its "grip" and allow it to slip. It may be possible to have new hub put in but often times replacing the prop is more practical, especially on smaller motors
