Lowrance and Lights Out

Saint Paul Dan

Question

I was fishing last night and had my my lights running while using my lowrance HDS5 as usual. As I started my motor to move spots, I swithched my lights from the "Anchor" position to "Navigate" in order to turn both lights on. This made my Lowrance unit and lights turn off like I blew a fuse. all fuses in the fuse box as well as in-line fuses are ok and I checked the terminal connections on my battery and cannot determine the problem. My motor runs and the trim works so I know the motor is getting juice, but no electronics. It happened suddenly so it makes me think its a fuse but I cannot find a blown fuse. I also recharged my battery but it was fully charged as I expected. Any ideas? Anything is much appreciated!

It almost sounds like when you switched it to navigate that it created a open in the circuit. Did you by chance try switching it back to see if the locator would start back up and the lights come back on ? The fact that no fuse's blew tells you that it was not a short to ground. You might have to pull the switch panel and check both sides of the switch with a meter to verify that you have power going out.

A Voltage spike/drop is the culprit.

Move the power from the spot you have it now so it has full time power, or it has priority over any switchable accessories on the line.

If the power drops below 10 V DC, or is interrupted even for a millisecond the unit will shut down to protect itself.
