low speed miss

Have a 1998 Merc 50hp 4 stroke. It will miss once every few minutes when slow trolling or idling in gear. At about 1500 rpm it will have a miss about every 30 seconds. When on plane anywhere from 3000 to 5000 rpms I don't notice it at all. Aside from the miss, it runs and idle's perfect. Starts great. Accelerates fine.

Always run no-ethonol fuel. Maybe go through 12 gallons a season. Treat with sta-bill in the offseason. Run fuel out before storage. Cylinders get a shot of fogging oil before storage. Plugs get changed. Oil gets changed.

Don't recall ever seeing a fuel filter... is there one for this motor? Have never had the carbs worked on or touched.. since it was new.

Could it just be time for a carb clean? It seems to run great otherwise. I guess I would think dirty carbs would show more issues than just a miss??? maybe I'm wrong.

Advice appreciated.
