Jig and Minnow

Recommended Posts

If anyone is offering some advice. I hear this all the time, and I have no doubts it works but anytime I drag on the bottom all I end up with is weeds. The lake I am referring to is Cass Lake and I caught walleyes this weekend but would like to figure out the how people are accomplishing this method. What did end up working was a bobber to keep it up a little, but it was about 10 perch for every walleye. Not complaing because any fish is fun, just looking for some knowledge.

Cast out, let it hit bottom. Wait a couple seconds and then "pop" it. Let it sink back to bottom, and watch your line for any indications of a bite (especially on the fall). Let it sit for a good 15 seconds on bottom again, then give it two "pops". Repeat again and again, slightly modifying the period of time in between pops", how hard you pop it, how long you let it sit on bottom, etc. I like to fish it aggressive on the jig, but then just let it lay dead still on bottom for 10-30 seconds. Sometimes the fish will pick it up and start swimming away with you jig-minnow. If you watch your line you will see this type of stuff. I like hi-viz lines in stained water b/c it's easier to see. That's my .02 ...

I caught my two biggest fish this past weekend (20' & 22") by accident. I cast my jig out and let it sink to the bottom, then put my rod down to go get something and had to scramble back to grab the rod once the fish hit.
